12 - A Slow Stumble

Exploring via well-worn grooves in the Earth

Running Song of the Day:

You really can’t go wrong with this one, and it’s long as shit. Some people will say it’s too repetitive. Those people are wrong.

Today’s Run:

Felt like shit when I was awake. Knee hurt. Hamstring kept cramping when moved a certain way. Stomach hurts. No desire to run.

Decided to run some novel areas; streets I’ve never been down, etc. Also decided to eliminate as many hills as possible. Also just ran slow.

This isn’t how you get stronger, but sometimes you just need to hold on and go for the ride, rather than worry about being the best version of yourself.

Checked out those train tracks from the other day again. They didn’t go where I thought they did (which is funny, because it’s not like they’ve changed or anything) but I enjoyed checking them out. There are some old deceased tracks that turn off from the main line and then immediately get swallowed up by vegetation.

Stay on down the line, or take a bend in the road?

Running on railroads kinda sucks. The wooden plank…things, are either too close together or too far apart to get a nice consistent pace with a good stride length. I just mini-stepped from log to log, I already wasn’t worried about pace so who cares at this point.

I ran all through town, the tracks cut through weird sections of land and places that I’d never go to otherwise. Lots of industrial buildings over here that are just kinda hiding in plain sight. Kinda sucks to live near that.

These tracks are technically active but it’s only for freight shipments and even then I think it’s only from a few of the nearby factories. Very very limited track usage and I think I’ve only had to wait for a train to go by two times where the tracks cut across one of the roads over here.

I muscled out the 10k today and felt better near the end of the run than I did when I was chillin’ at home before the run. Weird thing, that.

Train of the Day:

Big Metal

The ten year old in me wanted to hop onto one of the ladders and climb to the top. The nearly 40 year old in me worried about twisting an ankle or knee or something and then having to go to the hospital. So I just snapped a few pics and went on my way.
